- Andrew was widowed last year when his wife died in childbirth with his son, who also died, leaving him with daughters Victoria, 11 and Amy, 9. After a succession of housekeepers whom the girls didn't like, Andrew sends a telegram to Matchmaker Elizabeth Tandy that he needs a wife yesterday.
Caroline needs a change. None of the young men in town interest her, and she yearns for an adventure. Calling on Elizabeth, she learns of Andrew and his need for a wife as soon as possible. Just days later, she's on her way. Andrew meets her at the depot with Victoria now 12 and Amy now 10. Caroline's true joy at meeting them soon has Amy coming around, but Victoria is resistant, remaining loyal to her Mom. Caroline isn't deterred, when Victoria expects everything her own way. Caroline says she will take the girls to town once they make their beds. When Victoria refuses, she's left at home. Laundry day finds Caroline and Amy washing their own clothes and Andrews when Victoria refuses to bring her own laundry down. Without raising her voice or her hand, Caroline finally wins Victoria over. But then, she had a secret weapon. Her own mother had passed when she was 13 and she hadn't gotten along with her own Stepmother. At first. So she knew EXACTLY how to handle Victoria. - This book was all I wanted and more in a clean novel. It had Pioneer setting with believable characters and enough of actual day to day living without being monotonous. It was a really good read. I e not Kirsten Osbourne's writing. I have never read a book by her i have 't enjoyed. Luckily I have more to read from her.
- Another great story. All of the Brides of Beckman are wonderful. Poor Andrew never expected to find love with his mail order bride and Caroline had her own expectations about her groom. The best characters in the book was the girls. They were surprised at how their new stepmother reacted to them as well as how she treated them. This is really an enjoyable read.
- Kirsten Osbourne never go to put together a great story!!! Caroline is a perfect heroine. The girls truly needed her to show up. I love how she gets through to them. And to Andrew! He just didn't know he needed her.
- A wonderful story with strong characters. I really enjoyed this book! Read it in one sitting. I just couldn't put it down until the last page was turned!
