Jurisprudence is aimed at students new to the study of legal philosophy, also offering new ideas and perspectives that will be of interest to established scholars. Bix seeks to explain the often complex and difficult ideas in Jurisprudence clearly, but in a way that avoids distortion of the ideas through over-simplification. As well as introducing the reader to the fundamental themes in legal philosophy, it also describes and comments critically on the writing of the foremost legal theorists.

- If you are a law student taking a jurisprudence course, this resource will definitely make your life a LOT easier. It won't replace reading the original materials, but it definitely gives you the 10,000 foot view so that you have a general understanding before you start plowing through the thick philosophical originals.
- This is perhaps the best introduction to legal theory or jurisprudence I have ever read. Bix is an excellent writer and heavyweight legal philosopher.
- great book for a law student
- A good overview of many topics in philosophy of law (jurisprudence). Of particular benefit are the many, many citations provided--it makes it easy to track down books/articles on topics where you need to get further in-depth. If you are taking a phil of law course and are having trouble grasping the material, this book should be very helpful. It might not be as useful to those who are already knowledgeable in the field but, as I mentioned, even then the organization and citations could be beneficial.
- Just from the subject, it is not a very interesting read. However, the book is great at breaking down the different philosophies and how they evolved. It is great at describing how the philosophies come up in today's law.
- EXCELLENT !
- this is an excellent summary of the field, and should be in used in conjunction w more in-depth treatises. the service was professional and prompt.
- Ideas in this book did not give credit to the originator.
