• Broken. Disheveled. Discouraged. Barely clinging to hope. Those are the words that encapsulate where I found myself as I picked up Priscilla Shirer’s book, Fervent. I felt broken by the looming threat of marital dissolution. Earlier in 2015, my husband and I separated and I found myself contemplating divorce as the year neared its cyclic close. I looked in the mirror and I was emotionally and spiritually disheveled from the harsh beating inflicted by gusty winds of uncertainty and icy storms of confusion. Discouragement over the future lurked along my horizon and I was barely clinging to hope. I sat alone in my small, one bedroom apartment and, through tears, opened the pages of one of the most life changing books I’ve read. Ever.
  Immediately, I was incited against the dark forces that had held me captive for the last year. Things about myself that I had forgotten began to resurface in my memories. New words emerged. Called. Equipped. Armed. Empowered. Only moments into the pages, a shift began to occur in my thinking and suddenly, I felt a surge of strength. Of passion. Of purpose. Of anger. How dare the enemy aim to rob me of not only my identity in Christ, but also all of those things for which Christ died on my behalf. To hell with you, devil, became the new message ringing in my ears as I began to take captive every defeating and disheartening thought that had occupied my mind prior to opening the Spirit saturated pages of Shirer’s book. As the words took root in my heart, I began to see that this was no ordinary volume. It wasn’t written for the sweet child who prays innocently for a piece of candy after dinner. Neither was it addressed to the prideful Pharisee type who offers up prayers of gratitude that he’s not like others. It wasn’t even written to the one who already has a strong and faithful prayer life. No, it was written to the worn out, desperate woman who’s on the edge of the seat of despair. To the one who is about to give up. To her who is considering quitting. It was written to the defeated, the hopeless, and discouraged. It was written to me. So if that’s also you…if you’ve lost your fight, forgotten your position of victory, or feel your candle is about to burn out, allow me to recommend Priscilla Shirer’s Fervent. Reading it will leave you changed. Hungry for victory. Angry over the enemy’s lies. Fervent in prayer.
• This is a five star book. If you struggle with what to say in prayer or feel intimidated in front of others. This will give you tools to fight the enemy from a victory standpoint.
• Amazing book. Still taking it in chapter by chapter. Processing the fullness of the book. So thankful to have purchased it. Very life challenging.
• I was so excited to see a new book on prayer by Priscilla Shirer, Fervent A Woman's Battle Plan to Serious, Specific and Strategic Prayer.
  
  Full confession here, I am rather the Priscilla Shirer fan. I find her books to be direct, practical and very scripture based. Having said that, this may just be my absolute favorite of all of her books. I judge how well I like a Christian book by how many little sticky flags I place on the pages. I often will quote these thoughts in my ministry (giving full credit of course). This one is covered in little purple flags!
  
  I love the organization of this book. As usual, Ms. Shirer is very organized in the way she writes. She begins with a basic coverage of prayer and specifically regaining your passion for prayer. She then covers nine specific categories she believes we should be addressing in our prayer life our focus, our identity, our family, our past, our fears, our purity, our pressures, our hearts and our relationships.
  
  Each chapter begins with a little "If I were your enemy" thought. I loved these and have already quoted one on the Parenting Like Hannah Facebook page. It's a great way for her to frame a la C.S. Lewis how Satan must view his plans to derail us from the life God meant for us to live. The chapter is filled with her personal experiences and her insights based on scripture.
  
  One of my favorite parts of this book is that it is filled with scripture. She not only gives the citations within the book, but provides the quotes as well. This is always my pet peace about Christian books - having to flip back and forth within the book or between the book and the Bible to check out scriptures. Kudos to her for making it easy. Sometimes she adds her own thoughts after the scripture, but often she lets them stand on their own.
  
  I won't steal her thunder by quoting lots of passages. Let me just say this book is very practical, very well organized, very thought provoking and very scripture based. If you read my blog regularly, I rarely say you must absolutely own a book. I want to be respectful of your finances. I often say this book is worth reading, but to me that is very different from being a "must read". This in my opinion is one of those "must reads". It even has a tear out section in the back for prayers you can take with you wherever you go.
  
  If you want help with your prayer life, I am sure there are plenty of resources that may help you. I personally would choose to purchase this one. I really think it has the tools you need to enrich, enhance and even jump start your prayer life.

• Priscilla has written a book on prayer that is as practical as they come. It's not a theoretical dissertation on prayer. It's a nuts and bolts "let's get on our knees and get after it" guide. Step by step coverage of ten different areas of your life passion, focus, identity, family, past, fears, purity, pressures, hurts and relationships. She includes numerous specific scriptures for each of these ten areas. If this book doesn't motivate you in the war against the enemy of your soul I don't know what will. "Prayer is the portal that brings the power of heaven down to earth. It is kryptonite to the enemy and to all his ploys against you....His reign of terror stops here. Stops now. He might keep coming, but he won't have victory anymore."

• Behind the Bench has quickly become one of the best hockey books I've read. It's a smooth read, the storytelling is top notch, the insight is terrific and the way Craig gets these coaches to open up in a way you don't often see them do publicly (both personality wise and X's and O's wise) is phenomenal. I actually found myself sifting through these signature games while following along in the book, and it felt like I was in the film room with them. Each chapter seemingly gets better than the previous one, with all 10 coaches providing a different/unique perspective. Highly recommend to every hockey fan.
• I love hockey and write for a hockey website. I have also followed Craig Custance for several years and try to read or listen to everything he puts out. When I heard he wrote this book, I had to read it. It is one of the best hockey books I've ever read. Every chapter is slightly different so there is no redundancy. The best part is that the book has something for non-hockey fans as well. This is especially true of the Mike Babcock chapter which is filled with leadership thoughts that anyone can find useful.
• This is a great read. With inside access to 10 of the most successful coaches in the game, you'll pick up some lessons on tactics, funny stories about team pranks, and plenty of the emotion and insight that comes from players and coaches who have reached the pinnacle of their sport. But what I found most interesting about this book were the insights on how to motivate people, manage organizations, and treat others with respect that are applicable to business, family, and personal relationships in any context. Drop the Org Management & Leadership course in your MBA and read this instead.
• Great insights and perspective on some of the best games in recent history. The insights on various leadership styles and thought processes are great outside of the hockey realm and even better for the big hockey fan. I enjoyed how the story weaved through the adventure of how all the interviews were captured and each coaches personality. I thought of all the other coaches that I would've loved to hear from and didn't want it to end.
• Start with the hook, which is talking to some contemporary hockey coaches about important moments in the game, and then add in fun with technology, moments of doubt, family time and buying an RV, and your only halfway to covering the map that Craig Custance navigates in this gem of a book. (And he does it with fewer words packed into my opening sentence.) Craig leaves you with a better understanding of the coaches he interviews, and you get more layers of the writer that Craig has become. I followed him for behind the paywall of The Sporting News to ESPN the Website and now The Athletic and The Full 60 podcast. Consider this book part of that excellent journey.
• This is a great read. Craig lays out a simple idea, "tell the story of watching great games with great coaches," and then does so in a beautifully layered way that tells you so much more than just how the coach prepared his team for said game. You come away from this book having relived a hugely significant hockey game, understanding more about how each coach coaches, and who each coach is at his core.
  
  The way this book digs into ideas not just about hockey but also leadership, team building and motivation is fascinating.
  
  Loved it.
• Craig is able to share a very personal moment with some of the best coaches in the league which in turn provides a more personal look at how these coaches think and view the game, the world, life in general. It's not X's and O's, it's about the memories of their proudest achievements and how they got there. This book is excellent and essential for any adult involved with athletics to remember the human side of coaching and dealing with players.
• I think Craig killed it with this book. Getting to see how some of these guys think the game and interact with their players is similar to the behind the scenes shows like HBO 24/7 for the winter classic games, except you hear their point of view and what they are thinking. I think anyone interested in hockey will learn a great deal from this book. Players at any age or playing level, coaches, and parents can take a lot from this book. Check out his podcast the full 60 which is great too. Craig hope you can do the book idea with players like with the Dartyl Belfry podcast!

• I have read all 19 Joe Pickett novels and have recommended the series to a lot of people, but this is the last. The body count has just grown way too high and too gratuitous in such a violent world as ours has become. While I embrace poetic license, this is just more than I can tolerate.
• “Wolf Pack” is C. J. Box at his absolute best. I thought the long-running series was in decline after “Vicious Circle” and “The Disappeared.” But this latest book represents a full turnaround. Most readers will finish this compelling novel in one or two sittings.
  
  Its plot is intricate, relentless, and up-date; the good guys are nuanced; and the villains come in various forms—some plain evil, others merely contemptible. No surprise then that there’s lots of violence in the story. But killing—whether of animals or people—always has consequences in Joe Pickett’s world.
• C. J. Box never disappoints with his series. I have read all 19 books in the Joe Pickett series and always preorder the next one as soon as it becomes available, I hope there are many more to come. When you start reading this novel you can’t put it down, I just received it today and read the entire book. I would highly recommend this book to all, but especially to those who hunt and enjoy the great outdoors. Can’t wait for the next one to see how he tops this one. C.J. Box is one of my favorite authors.
• My review of “Wolf Pack” came a little more slowly, and with more deliberation than I normally give. This is because I got the Audible edition at the same time I bought the edition.
  
  STAND-ALONE It can be read as a stand-alone, but the greatest appreciation will come for devotees of the series.
  
  CLIFFHANGER. No. Although there surely will be more Pickett novels, this does not end with a cliffhanger.
  
  If I were to rate this only based on the Audible narration, I’d be hard-pressed to rate it four stars, as the writing comes across as just a bit too much of an info dump. However, when I read the version, the info dump is much more invisible, so I am rating it more highly.
  
  WRITING & EDITING Professional. The flow is good, and the historical bits are interesting. Sometimes the inter-agency tension seems too drawn out, but, as someone who has witnessed just how antagonistic the various factions within the federal and state agencies can be, it had the feeling of authenticity.
  
  BLUSH FACTOR The number of eff words is more than you’ll want to read with your prayer group, probably, but it is not excessive for most folks. Certainly not for me. I mention it only for those for whom it might annoy.
  
  No graphic sex, but some of the violence might disturb a few readers. I appreciated the realistic portrayal, though.
  
  BOTTOM LINE
  
  I enjoyed this murder mystery and consider it a fine Action-Adventure.
• Much of the storyline was illogical, with inaccurate statistics that were used to justify FBI activities. The body count, and the level of mayhem made this book extremely distasteful.
• Never read a Pickett book that wasn't five stars worthy, and this one is definitely worth five and more, if they were available. Joe is not the normal easy going Game Warden he normally portrays, as he and Nate are more in the justice mode. You will find yourselves wondering when the morbid stories will cease and tell retaliation will begin. Don't give up yet, as the fun will soon begin!
  There are many different aspects to Wolf Pack than most of the Pickett series contain, but the storylines, and the bad characters, are just as devious as all other stories have been. I have to admit some stories go far beyond Joe's normal restraints, but hang in there and you will enjoy each and every exciting episode as they begin to fall in place.
  Without hesitation, I definitely recommend this exciting masterpiece by the mastermind.behind the Joe Pickett series, Mr. C. J. Box. He certainly has had the uncanny ability to release nineteen exciting masterful performances of this series, most all of them were five star masterpieces! Fortunately I have had the opportunity to read each and every one of them in order. I anxiously await the next exciting adventure, although I know it will be at least a year before it will arrive! If you don't buy this outstanding story, the loss will definitely be yours!😤

  I love this series and I love this author. I've read almost everything written by him, including all of this lengthy series, and he never disappoints (and I'm working on catching up on the couple of books I've missed after I finish this review). Wyoming happens to be one of my favorite states too so that adds a lot of appeal.
  
  This is book #19 in the Joe Pickett series about Game Warden Joe Pickett of the Wyoming Fish and Game Department. Joe has his job back (after losing it temporarily in book #18) with the help of former Wyoming Governor Rulon acting as his attorney. And actually he gained some great benefits during the process.
  
  In this tale, Joe ends up working with a female game warden from the next District over trying to track down an illegal drone operator who is harming wildlife. They get help from his falconer best friend Nate Romanowski.
  
  Added into the mix are the FBI, the DOJ and some dangerous out-of-towners.
  
  If you've enjoyed Box's other books, you'll surely love this one. Box is a consistently fine author and I highly recommend this latest book.
  
  I'm off now to read SHOTS FIRED, a collection of ten short stories based in Joe Pickett's world, that I somehow missed before this.
